Football Australia has welcomed a major boost from the NSW Government, with $300,000 in seed funding announced to support the inaugural season of the Australian Championship.

The funding highlights the NSW Government’s recognition of the historical, cultural, and sporting significance of the new competition, which is set to become a flagship event on the national football calendar.
The investment will enable the Championship to engage multicultural communities, upgrade venues with new equipment and minor infrastructure improvements, and ensure key matches are broadcast nationally. This support is expected to bring the tournament to wider audiences, showcase emerging football talent, and strengthen elite development pathways across the country.

Football Australia said the NSW Government’s commitment would have a lasting impact, not only on the competition itself but also on grassroots and community football.
“This funding ensures the Australian Championship can deliver on its vision of creating a truly inclusive and nationally recognised competition,” a spokesperson said.
The $300,000 contribution comes under the NSW Government’s Project Support Program, which aims to increase access and participation in sport for underrepresented groups. The program also helps local communities benefit from sporting events that drive cultural connection and participation.

With government backing, the Australian Championship is now positioned to leave a strong legacy, supporting pathways for players, uniting diverse communities, and inspiring the next generation of footballers.
