Echoing a shared affinity for Italy as a site of enduring artistic inspiration, the Echoes of Italy in Sketch and Paint exhibition at the Clive James Library in Kogarah, brings together works by local artists and also students from REDsugar Art Studio in Hurstville. Some of the artists travelled to Italy late 2025 for an art study tour getting to know the masterpieces and using these to influence their works in sketch and paint. The students were also asked to use Italy as inspiration for their pieces. The works in the exhibition reflect Italy's layered history, the richness of its artistic heritage, cultural memory and architectural presence. They evoke the current and historical resonance of place.
Recently we spoke to some of the artists and others involved in the exhibition.
The exhibition is open until 28 June 2026.
