Thousands gather in Eastlakes for Bayside Spring Fair

Thousands of locals and visitors flocked to Eastlakes on Saturday for Bayside Council’s annual Spring Fair, celebrating the area’s cultural diversity through food, performances and community activities.
Held across Jack Mundey and Bridget Tight reserves, the fair brought together Bayside residents, community organisations, local representatives and performers.
Bayside SES volunteers were among the community organisations engaging with attendees, teaching children how to recognise potential dangers and the precautions to take during an emergency.
Local artists, school bands and children’s cultural groups took to the stage throughout the day, showcasing the diversity of the Eastlakes community through music and dance.
Family-friendly activities ranging from rock climbing to camel rides were also offered throughout the day, alongside amusement rides and activities for children.
Local political representatives also attended the fair, including NSW Member for Heffron Ron Hoenig and federal Member for Kingsford Smith Matt Thistlethwaite.
Mr Thistlethwaite said events like the Spring Fair provided an opportunity for the community to celebrate its diversity.
“It’s really about coming together and celebrating that. That’s our greatest strength, our multiculturalism and our diversity, and a day like today is where we get to put that on display, celebrate it and come together in unity to respect each other,” Mr Thistlethwaite said.
The warm spring weather also drew crowds outdoors, with attendees seeking shade as temperatures climbed to 33 degrees throughout the afternoon.
For many, the conditions offered an early taste of the warmer months ahead, as families made the most of the outdoor activities spread across the two reserves.
