Georges River biodiversity and foreshore plan is still on public exhibition. Submission close at 5pm on Monday 30 March: https://yoursay.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au/public-exhibition-biodiversity-and-foreshore-planning-proposal-dcp-amendment
Che Waugh has been following the community response, reporting on a range of perspectives regarding the proposed changes:
Voices in Support
Kim Wagstaff (Oatley Flora & Fauna): This is a correct first step towards improving biodiversity, habitat, character of the area and meeting state canopy coverage target. Generally large lot size requirement means more green area.
Mayor Elise Borg: We heard what the residents want and this proposal is the outcome. State canopy target and LMR target can not be met with tree planting only on public land and we need legislative support and increased canopy coverage on private land. Residents are also encouraged to book one on one consultation with council to look at your lot's development situation.

Voices against part of the proposal:
Ben Wang (Independent Councillor) and Jenny (Construction Consultant) who represent a group of residents:
Warns that strict lot size and Floor Space Ratio (FSR) requirements may price out young families and prevent downsizers from staying in the area, potentially stifling economic development. Also these requirements do not guarantee tree plantations.
Suggests there are alternative ways to reach canopy targets without the risks associated with planting large trees in close proximity to residential structures
