A team of DJ broadcasters from 90.1 NBC FM attended the Battle of the Beats, a youth band competition organized by Georges River Council in partnership with 3 Bridges Youth Zone, on the electrifying night of April 11th. Vivi James (host of the Sunday evening program), Glen Jay (Tuesday morning program), Michael Andon (Thursday program), and Lihua (our general administrator) all came together for a night filled with teenage headbanging and pure musical talent. It was an unforgettable experience!

The venue was buzzing with energy as people of all ages, from 16 to 80, along with parents, uncles, aunties, and grandmas, gathered to enjoy the music. A pizza tent was set up, and everyone was devouring the delicious pizzas. The atmosphere was electric, and the compere Gen Fricker, a former 2JJJ announcer, actress, and comedian, kept the audience entertained with finesse and humor.

The sound system was crystal clear, and the big auditorium at the 3 Bridges Youth Centre was the perfect setting for the event. We even had the opportunity to patch back to the studio, where Dave Jeffrey interviewed Jesse Mawson, the Youth Coordinator for 3 Bridges, and Brad Cain, the organizer from Georges River Council, during drive time on 90.1 NBC FM.

The bands brought their A-game, with Cross Pollinate taking home the 1st prize of a $2,500 voucher for their smooth performance. Jada Maya claimed the 2nd prize of a $1,500 voucher. Hellix, Violet Phoenix, and Deon, a dynamic two-man rapper band, rounded out the top five with their incredible performances.

The bands were young, enthusiastic, and full of potential, making the night even more special. A huge thank you to 3 Bridges Youth Zone Penshurst and Georges River Council for hosting such an amazing event. It was truly a night to remember!
