Homelessness in Australia is a growing concern, with the 2021 Census recording around 123,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. While men still make up the majority, one of the most alarming trends is the rise in women over the age of 55 finding themselves without a safe place to live. With financial pressures mounting, the situation is expected to worsen in the coming years.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout

One initiative working to break the cycle of homelessness is the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Held on one of the coldest nights of the year, the event brings together hundreds of CEOs, business leaders, and community figures who give up the comfort of a warm bed to sleep outdoors. Each participant raises funds to support St Vincent de Paul Society’s frontline services, including:

  • Food vans and emergency relief programs.

  • Accommodation and meal services.

  • New initiatives to meet emerging needs.

In 2024, the Sleepout marked 20 years in NSW, raising vital funds to help Vinnies continue their mission of supporting vulnerable Australians.
